What is AI stock trading?
You’ll see a lot of content online about “AI stock trading” or “algorithmic trading.” This usually refers to bots that use machine learning, algorithms, and large data models to place trades automatically, often without any humans involved. It’s a different concept from a robo-advisor, which typically builds and rebalances a portfolio for you based on a questionnaire, rather than actively trading in real time.
This can work well, but it comes with real risks:
- No human checks. Without pre-set market limits, a bot can rack up losses fast.
- Overfitting. Bots trained on historical data can struggle when markets move in ways that haven’t happened before. They’re reacting to the past, not the present.
- High volatility exposure. Sudden market swings are exactly when automated systems tend to perform worse.
How Nim is different
Liminal takes a different approach. As an AI investing app, Nim doesn’t trade for you behind the scenes. It gives you the information you need, in plain language, so you can make the call yourself. Once you’ve decided, Nim executes the trade.
You also choose how you want to invest. Tell Nim you’d rather keep things simple and stick to well-established, lower-risk strategies, and that’s what it’ll suggest. Tell Nim you’re comfortable with more risk and want to try to beat the market, and it’ll tailor its suggestions to that instead. Either way, you set the approach, and Nim works within it.
You stay in control of every decision. Nim just removes the friction, so investing feels simple even if you’ve never bought a stock before.
